So what does an Au Pair do? Here is a short description of the work and lifestyle:

  • You live-in with the family, with your own private room, and sometimes even your own bathroom
  • Your board and accommodation is completely free, and you are paid a generous weekly allowance on top of that!
  • The families often live very glamorous lives which you get to be a part of – sometimes even including holidays with the family
  • The hours can range from 30 – 50 hours per week
  • You will usually have a minimum 2 days off per week to do as you please
  • Your main task is providing childcare during the hours required by the parents
  • Sometimes you might be asked to do light housework (such as preparing the children's lunch, tidying up their toys)
